The Federal Council acknowledged that the European regulation on succession (European regulation) has considerable implications for Swiss citizens with their last place of habitual residence in an EU member state as well as for persons domiciled in Switzerland who hold assets in one of these states.
The main objective of the draft revision is the partial harmonisation of Swiss international inheritance law with the European regulation in order to reduce the number of Swiss decisions that contradict those of the states bound by the European regulation.
